May Exhibition - Hebden Bridge Arts
Tuesday 28th May to Saturday 15th June 2024
Hebden Bridge Arts presents an exhibition inspired by Jean Giono’s “The Man Who Planted Trees”
Hebden Bridge Arts have created an exciting multi-art form project inspired by the mid-century French allegorical short story, ‘The Man Who Planted Trees’ by Jean Giono, which is one of 11 key commissions for CultureDale, Calderdale's Year of Culture, 2024.
The project has been created and co-curated with a small team of outstanding professional artists and facilitators, local community groups, and Calderdale people who want to be part of it.
Live performances of a new play based on the short story will happen in July: at Hebden Bridge Little Theatre from 11-14 July and at The Brooksbank School in Elland on 20 & 21 July, with BSL-interpreted performances in each accessible venue.
The exhibitions, featuring art made by local people on themes from the story, run across three venues in Hebden Bridge and Elland from May to July, and you're invited to join in the fun and creative at our Community Creative Days on Saturday 1 June in Todmorden & Saturday 15 June in Rastrick.
‘The Man Who Planted Trees’ text is the starting point for Hebden Bridge Arts’ environmentally-themed community project as part of Culturedale - Calderdale's Year of Culture 2024. The project includes a reimagining of Giono’s short story for the stage, through community performances, and a series of exhibitions, workshops and events.
